The O’Connell’s run for Special Olympics was a great family event. They hosted a one mile run including kids, a Special Olympics event and an 8 K, providing something for everyone. The bagpipes set pre-race air with excitement. The course was well marked with a sign for every 1K and a water stop on the back side. With DG Productions handling timing it went off perfectly.
For the CarbBuster this was another great run day, taking the age group with a time of 36:26. CarbBuster posted a new PR (Personal Record) for a short distance of 7:20. However, any day you can run is a day to cherish. CarbBuster planned to lock into a 7:30 pace utilizing a Garmin Forerunner 10 watch. However, coming into mile 2 his pace was clocking at 7:15 and a change of plan was put into pace. From that point on he was locked in and hung on for a new short distance pace.
Young and old had a great time. Sponsors for the run; O'Connell's as host, George Killian's Premium Lager, Republic Bank and Trust, OK Runner, Bill Veazey's Party Store, Sysco Foods and Cox allowed for a high class event.Adults had music and post-race refreshments. Face painting and jumping blow-up tent was on site for the kids. Post-race snacks included oranges, bananas and cookies for the group and the host team was great in allowing runners to pick up an extra for the kids.
O’Connell’s provided great awards with a king size beer mug, putting many beer steins to shame. The art work looks really great. It also was cool being able to try it out with the first fill being a Coor’s Light Green Beer. The Irish Green tees for signup with a multi-colored logo are just as cool as the award mugs.
This is one you are going to mark on the calendar fornext year. Bring the family and enjoy the day for Special Olympics.
Next run planned for the CarbBuster is the OKC Memorial Full Marathon. Hope to see you there.
